kamers vol geskenke

kamers vol geskenke starts this week.
it runs from the 21st to the 27th of October.
i can't believe it is already here....
i hope you will all come and hang out with us and buy some of our lovely things.

i got marli, my partner in crime, to take some photos of the things we will be selling.
here it is, have a look ↓↓↓↓

lovely laboratory glass vessels that you can use as flower pots or planters or you can use it in the kitchen as measuring jugs and wot not.
marli made the beautiful botanical illustrations and we had it sand blasted onto the glass.

marli made amazing artworks which she had letter pressed in gold and then framed in these lovely wooden box frames.

she is also doing fantastic christmas packaging in the form of plastic buckets with gold vinyl on it, after you have used the buckets for your kids gifts, which is cool cause they can't break the seal otherwise you would know, you can use it around your house for anything and everything.
no more packaging that you just throw away :)
we also made some porcelain tea bowls and put some gold transfers on them. nice.

more of clever marli :)
we also had some awesome glass pendants blown.
we're putting air plants in them and putting them on long silver chains. i think they are just great.

besides all of these things there will be more....
yes ways....
i will have some jewellery there (surprise surprise) and my hanging bettie plants
and marli has made beautiful letter-pressed notebooks.

so don't miss out and don't come without saying hallooooo!!!!!
we look forward to meet you!(but only if you nice :))

bettie plants for kamers

i have been working on some things with my good friend marli lyon for

Hallloooo Marli
a collaboration.
the other day we were wondering about the Afrikaans word for collaboration, i thought for sure there must be an interesting translation, but no! there is not.
it is "saamwerking" which to me sounds lame, so i think we will have to come up with our own word.
i'll think about it and let you know...
so collaborating is fun, you learn a lot....different people think in different ways,
which keeps things interesting.
it creates all kinds of possibilities for growth.

one of these days we will take some photos and show you the things we have been working on.
it is a mix of things.
things we have worked on together and also things we have done independently,
i think it all works nicely together as a collection of things.

there has been a nice botanical theme running throughout, which has been fun.

here are some of the hanging plants i made for the Bloemfontein show,
there will also be some for the Lourensford show in Somerset west and the Irene show in Pretoria.
the bettie heads are porcelain, i plant different plants inside her head and she hangs on a brass chain.

milnerton market finds

we braved the south easter today when we decided to go to milnerton market. i was looking for some specific things that i want to use in jewellery. but i'll say no more about these ideas until i've actually made it. you know how it goes.....if you talk about it too much you never actually end up doing it.
here's some of the things i bought. just random things that i liked.

and Happy got a new friend.

its nice in joburg.

rory and i have spent the past 2 weeks in joburg, organizing stuff for the neighbourgoods market that started in Braamfontein on the 10th of September.
i'm not from joburg and i've never really spent that much time in the city, but i found it fascinating.
im sure if i had more time, and wasn't in work mode 24/7 i would've found the best second hand shops and i would've bought the best things.
i did manage to do a couple of things.....
i went to a cool shop called, deerhunter, in greenside, where i bought a pair of really cool old pony tekkies and an
afrikaans scrabble set.(awesome)
i went to the tea garden at Emmarentia dam for a burger and chips and fanta orange out of a glass bottle, with my friend sian eliot.
i had the best pasta i think i have ever had (accept raffa's nanna's gnocchi recipe) at vovo telo's in parkhurst.
i had an awesome berry smoothie at wolves and got some of their red velvet cupcakes to take home for family tea time. yum.
i went to the walter sisulu national botanical gardens and was blown away by the plants and the trees and the abundance of birds.

around the market in juta street i visited Post for some great coffee, the lomo shop for some film and friendly faces and Co-op for some amazing design and stuff.

and then between other runnings around, there was some nice family chillout sessions and food feasts that included pretty much beer aaaaand dessert with every meal (say whaaaaaaat????) so now its back to iceberg lettuce and water. awesome i cant wait......):

but the main focus was the market. obviously. i'm a bit ashamed to admit that i was so flustered half the time that i didn't manage to get any real real nice shots. but here's a few. mostly of our stand. duhhhhhhh.
i know.......shameless advertising. (somebody's gotta do it dammit)

 porcelain amazingness.

 rooftop vibes
this wall of the building is my favourite part of the market. toooo beautiful.
 be kind ceramics

just a note, ....we live in cape town, and will only be able to get to the joburg market every now and again....when we are not there manning our own stand, the lovely Abi Dawson, will be running the show for us. if you are looking for some skermunkils, please go and find her on the 2nd floor of the market in the corner on the right.
she is awesome!!!!
