i couldn't wait until tomorrow to write my next post....there's too many pictures i want to show. especially my moving train pictures. did you know that Indian Railways is the single biggest employer in the world? it's nuts. india is.....(i honestly think it's impossible to understand or define it!) but....with all the crazy chaos contradictions it's got this fantastic railway system. it transports more than 18million people and more than 2 million tonnes of freight daily. wow!!!! to find out more about it check out this link to wikipedia.
we loved travelling by train, especially in the Shatabdi Express, which was an AC chair car carriage. it had rad comfy chairs, air con (which was fantastic, considering that we were dealing with 40+celcius temperatures) and cool tinted windows that were great for taking old school looking sepia pictures. here's some of my favourites.
Hi Marietjie
ReplyDeleteI am a friend of Patsy's - the one living in India - and just wanted to let you know that I so much enjoyed your 'Indian train pictures'. We have been on the Shatabti Express and the experience was exactly the same as yours.
The Indian Railwaysystem is indeed fenominal - there is a station in Mumbai where, on a daily basis 1,3million travellers, hop on and off the train. One day, hopefully, we'll meet up at Robin and Patsy's to compare our Indian expriences. Love Gisela
Hi Gisela, it's so nice to hear from you, especially nice because you can relate to the pictures. yayyy! there were times when i really wanted to come home and i found india quite hard and difficult to deal with, but i'm already missing it (or parts of it). i must say that going on the train was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. i hope we meet you soon! lotsa love marietjie xxx
